Geographical print culture in the German-speaking territories, c.1690—c.1815

This paper examines the number and type of books geography geographical periodicals in eighteenth-century German-speaking territories place chronology their publication with reference to recent work on print culture Enlightenment. The extends studies Aufklärungsgeographie (Enlightenment geography) by taking a broadly quantitative approach presenting, for 345 109 periodicals, geographies authoring, editing publishing between c.1693 c.1815. Attention is paid differences content, contemporaries’ interests as form ordered knowledge (wissenschaft) purposes work: broadly, education, polite sociability, ‘completeness’ Enlightenment knowledge.
